On certain vehicles, a problem with the electric drive motor software could cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Note: This problem would cause a warning light to turn on and a warning message to be displayed.

BMW will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the electric drive motor software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a BMW dealership.
On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French.
This error does not affect vehicle safety.

This recall is for certain vehicles that had the body domain controller (BDC) electronic control unit (ECU) replaced during a dealer service visit. On certain vehicles, a programming error in the replacement BDC ECU could cause the automatic door locking function not to work. As a result, a door that is not locked could open in a severe crash.
A door that opens in a crash could increase the risk of injury.
BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reprogram the BDC ECU. To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends that you should manually lock all doors before each trip until the recall repairs have been completed.
On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the high-voltage battery electronic control unit to reset. As a result, the high-voltage system could disconnect while driving. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels. Note: If this happens, you may see a warning message on the instrument panel.
