2021 Ford E450 Recall

On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 20S73 (Transport Canada recall no. 2020-633) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required. On certain vehicles, the insulation for the engine cover may not be positioned correctly. As a result, some surfaces inside the vehicle could get hot while the engine is running.

If a person touches a hot surface, there could be a risk of a burn injury.

Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the powertrain software on vehicles equipped with stationary elevated idle control (SEIC) or battery charge protect (BCP).

On certain vehicles, the power steering pressure line may not be properly connected to the brake booster. As a result, power steering fluid could leak and cause a loss of power steering and power brake assist. Note: Vehicles that were inspected under recall 22S08 (Transport Canada recall 2022-073) also require this repair. This recall only affects certain E-series incomplete vehicles equipped with dual rear wheels.

A loss of power brakes can cause a potential sudden increase in brake pedal force and lead to an increase in stopping distance. A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds. Both could increase the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the power steering pressure line and the brake booster line.

Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the connection between the power steering pressure line and the Hydroboost unit. The power steering line will be replaced if the connection is not secure.

Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the engine cover for gaps between the rubber seal and the insulation. If gaps are found, the dealer will install engine cover insulation patches, as necessary. The dealer will also update the powertrain software on vehicles equipped with Stationary Elevated Idle Control (SEIC) or Battery Charge Protect (BCP).

On certain vehicles, a wire harness in the rear of the vehicle could be damaged by contact with the vehicle frame. If this happens, the engine could stall and you may not be able to restart it. This can also cause the antilock brake system (ABS) not to work properly and the roll stability control (RSC) to turn off. Note: This problem may cause the check engine light and/or ABS and traction control warning lights to turn on.

A sudden loss of engine power could create the risk of a crash. Additionally, a loss of ABS and/or RSC could also increase the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to inspect the wire harness for damage. The dealer will apply protective tape over the area and ensure the harness is not touching nearby parts. Any damaged wires will be replaced.
