THE POSITION OF THE HINGE PIN WHICH CONNECTS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR MOUNMTING PLATE IS SECURED BY A COTTER PIN. THAT COTTER PIN MAY HAVE BEEN OMITTED DURING ASSEMBLY OF THE SUSPECT VEHICLES. IF THE COTTER PIN IS MISSING, THE HINGE PIN COULD WORK ITSELF OUT OF THE HINGE THUS DISCONNECTING THE BRAKE PEDAL FROM THE FLOOR MOUNTING PLATE. IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, THE AIR BRAKES COULD NOT BE OPERATED BY BRAKE PEDAL APPLICATION. THIS COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
