On certain motorcycles, the fuel hose from the fuel filter to the throttle assembly can rub against the bottom of the fuel pump plate and develop a leak. In the presence of a spark or flame, the leaking fuel could cause a fire and personal injury. Correction: Fuel hose will be replaced with a molded hose that curves away from the fuel pump plate. Also, a new bracket and grommet will be installed to hold the new hose in position. The return hose will be replaced at the same time.
A failure of this component (fuel system) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
On certain vehicles, the digital fuel injection vehicle down sensor (VDS) may be dislodged from its normal mounting position during battery maintenance. This sensor is designed to stop the engine and prevent the fuel injection system from pumping fuel unnecessarily if the vehicle falls down. If the sensor is not properly installed, the engine may crank but not start or the engine may stop during certain riding situations, like leaning over on a turn. Sudden loss of engine power could cause the operator to lose their balance with the potential for a vehicle crash. Correction: Dealers will ensure that the vehicle down sensor is properly installed, install a warning label on the vehicle to assure that the sensor is properly installed in the future and place revised pages in the owner's manual.
