On certain vehicles, water could leak into the rear of the vehicle and build up in the spare tire wheel well. If this happens, the fuel pump control unit could short circuit and cause the engine to stall. Note: This problem could cause a check engine light to turn on, a damp carpet in the cargo area and/or the sound of water moving in the spare wheel well while driving.
A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect for water leaks and install a drain plug in the spare wheel well. The fuel pump control unit will be replaced, if necessary. To reduce the safety risk, you should regularly check for moisture in the cargo area and spare wheel well.
On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed.
A failure of this component (steering) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
On certain vehicles equipped with the Active Curve System (ACS), the oil in the ACS’s reservoir could start foaming under certain dynamic driving situations in combination with an oil level below minimum. The oil foam could leak out of the oil reservoir through the vent holes in the sealing cap and spray onto hot surface components of the exhaust system. This could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the ACS reservoir for proper oil level and replace the sealing cap with an updated part.
A failure of this component (engine) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 206 – Door Lock and Door Retention Components. The left (driver's side) door locks may indicate a locked position, even when the door is not locked, which is contrary to the requirements of the standard. Correction: Dealers will inspect the left door locks, and replace them as necessary.
A failure of this component (structure) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
Certain plug-in hybrid vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 110 - Tire Selection and Rims. The tire pressure certification label on the B-pillar incorrectly states seating capacity figures and tire dimensions on front and rear axles, and therefore fails to comply with requirements of the standard. In the event the incorrect tires were installed on the vehicle, the vehicle's speed calibration would be incorrect. Correction: Dealers will inspect the tire pressure certification label on the B-pillar, and replace it if necessary.
A failure of this component (label) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts and CMVSS 115 - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Excess bulkhead insulation material may have been used during manufacturing, and as a result, could extend into the lower area of the windshield. This excess insulation could cover the VIN label, and potentially affect bonding of the windshield. If the windshield bonding is affected on the passenger side, in the event of a crash (where passenger frontal airbag deployment is warranted), the airbag may not deploy as designed, which would fail to meet the requirements of the standard, and increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the bulkhead insulation for excess material and remove it as necessary. In the event of compromised windshield bonding, the bonding will be reworked.
A failure of this component (structure) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
On certain vehicles, the bonding of the frontal glass cover and the rear glass element of the panoramic sunroof might not meet specifications. As a result, the sunroof glass could separate from the vehicle while driving, which could create a road hazard and could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the panoramic sunroof, and replace as necessary.
A failure of this component (structure) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
On certain vehicles, the engine control unit may be out of specification. This could result in the engine shutting down when applying the brakes just before stopping the vehicle, and/or with a high engine load combined with an insufficient accelerator pedal actuation following an ECO start. Depending on traffic conditions, an unintentional engine shut-down could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update the engine and transmission control unit software.
A failure of this component (engine) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
On certain vehicles, the electric power steering connector may not be properly sealed against water entry. This could allow moisture to enter the power steering control unit which could interrupt the signal and cause the electric steering assist to deactivate. A loss of power steering assist could unexpectedly increase steering effort which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction dealers will replace the connector and, if necessary, replace the steering rack.
A failure of this component (steering) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts and CMVSS 212 - Windshield Mounting. The bonding of the windshield might not meet specifications of the 212 standard. This could result in the possibility of the windshield separating in the event of a crash, and in the case of a head-on collision warranting deployment of the passenger frontal airbag, the windshield might not be able to support the airbag as intended, affecting compliance to the 208 standard and increasing the risk of injury to the front passenger seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the windshield.
A failure of this component (structure) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) 201 - Occupant Protection. The latch securing the center console doors might not meet the requirements of the standard, specifically the longitudinal load tests. In the event of a crash, if longitudinal loads exceed those specified in the standard, items secured in the center console might exit the compartment, which may increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will remove the bumper stop for the center console armrest latch.
A failure of this component (structure) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
