2013 RAM 3500 Recall

On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French.

This error does not affect vehicle safety.

This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.

On certain pickup and chassis-cab trucks, the owner's manual and service manual list the wrong torque specification for the wheel nuts. As a result, some trucks may have had the lug nuts over-tightened during servicing. This can damage the wheel studs and, over time, they could break. If this happens, a wheel could separate from the truck. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with dual rear wheels and flanged lug nuts.

A wheel separation could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle.

FCA Canada will contact owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to inspect and replace the wheel studs, as necessary. They will also provide an update for the torque specification listed in the owner's manual.

This recall is for certain replacement parts for use on Ram Heavy Duty trucks that were sold by dealer parts departments. This recall is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. If the outboard steering linkage jam nut is not welded according to the Dealer Service Instructions for safety recall V06, it could loosen and allow one end of the drag link to separate from the adjuster sleeve. A drag link separation can result in a loss of steering control. The following 4x4 style steering system parts are included in this recall: Drag Link Assembly (Part # 68369907AA) Jam Nut (Part # 06510749AA and Part # 06510750AA) Drag Link Outer (Part # 68111301AA) Drag Link Adjuster (Part #68111302AA) Drag Link Inner (Part # 68111304AA)

A loss of steering control could increase the risk of a crash.

FCA Canada will notify potential owners using dealer sales records. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the drag link assembly. If the drag link is not welded but the jam nuts are properly tightened, the nuts will be welded to the adjuster sleeve. If the nuts are not properly tightened, the drag link assembly will be assessed for replacement. If a component or assembly is returned, FCA will reimburse the customer.

On certain trucks equipped with a power locking tailgate, the tailgate may open while driving. If this occurs, cargo that is not secured could fall out of the truck bed and onto the road. Note: This is an expansion of recall U74 (Transport Canada recall 2018-398).

Cargo that falls from the truck bed could create a road hazard for others.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to a dealer to modify the tailgate locking mechanism. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2019-221

This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury.

The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.

On certain trucks, a nut in the steering system could loosen and cause a loss of steering control. This problem affects trucks equipped with a 4x4 style steering system.

A loss of steering control would increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the outboard steering linkage jam nut. If the nut is properly tightened, it will be welded to the adjuster sleeve. If the nut is not properly tightened, the drag link assembly will be replaced.

FCA Canada has determined that some Mopar gooseneck trailer hitch ball kits may not fully seat and lock into the truck hardware as intended. This can be caused by dirt and/or debris accumulation on top of the gooseneck ball mount, in the mounting hole and/or tolerance stack-up. If this occurs, the gooseneck ball may appear to be locked in place when it is not. If the gooseneck ball is not locked in place, under certain driving conditions it may detach from the truck. Affected parts are the Mopar 2 5/16‘’ Gooseneck Ball Kit part number 82213631 and Mopar 3” Gooseneck Ball Kit part number 82213632. Correction: FCA Canada will conduct a voluntary field action on all affected parts. The remedy for this condition is currently under development. Note: This field action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

On certain vehicles equipped with the Roadside Emergency Kit containing a Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the suspect Kidde fire extinguisher with a new Kidde fire extinguisher with a steel nozzle. On certain vehicles equipped with a steering column gear shifter, the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) may become inoperative. This could allow the steering column gear shifter lever to be shifted out of the PARK (P) position without depressing the service brake pedal or having the key in the ignition, which could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the BTSI as necessary. The Body Control Module (BCM) will also be updated.

On certain vehicles equipped with 6.7 litre diesel engines, the water pump could fail. This could result in an underhood fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the water pump with a new one.

On certain vehicles equipped with a 220 amp alternator, frequent load cycling at the rated amperage capacity and particularly in hot ambient conditions could cause the alternator to develop a short, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire. If a short develops in the alternator while the vehicle is being driven, it could also result in the engine stalling, causing a loss of motive power and increasing the risk of a crash. Both situations could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the alternator.

On certain vehicles, the front suspension track bar frame bracket may have been improperly welded during the manufacturing process. As a result, bracket welds may break and allow the bracket to separate from the frame rail. A separated front suspension track bar frame bracket will cause diminished steering response, which could affect vehicle handling and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the front suspension track bar frame bracket. For vehicles found without a separated front suspension track bar frame bracket and/or cracked weld(s), additional support brackets will be installed. For vehicles found with a separated front suspension track bar frame bracket and/or cracked weld(s), a new front suspension track bar frame bracket will be welded to the frame.

On certain 4-door pickup vehicles, the software in Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module may contain side impact calibrations that are overly sensitive. This could result in unintended deployment of the Side Airbag Inflatable Curtain (SABIC), seat airbag, and/or seatbelt pre-tensioner during certain driving conditions, which could startle the driver and result in a vehicle crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will update the ORC module calibration.

On certain vehicles equipped with Electronic Vehicle Information Centers, the steering wheel wiring harness may wear against the driver frontal airbag retainer spring, potentially resulting in an electrical short which could cause unintended driver frontal airbag deployment. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could result in injury and increase the risk of a vehicle crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will secure the wiring harness and add protective caps to the retainer spring.

On certain vehicles equipped with 6.7L diesel engines, an electrical connection at the fuel heater could overheat, potentially rendering the heater inoperative and causing a fuel leak and fuel odour. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel heater, and replace it if required, as well as replace the fuel heater wiring harness electrical connector.

Certain vehicles may not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 101 - Controls and Displays and CMVSS 105 - Brake Systems. The brake malfunction/parking brake indicator may display the word "BRAKE" instead of the required symbol. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the instrument cluster in affected vehicles.

Certain vehicles may be equipped with headlight high-beams that do not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting and Retroreflective Devices. This could compromise driver down-road visibility and, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and driver reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reconfigure the central body controller for proper headlamp shutter function during high-beam mode.

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting and Retroreflective Devices. The vehicles may not give notification of a turn signal malfunction, as is required by the standard. The absence of notification of a turn signal malfunction could, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and driver reactions, increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reconfigure the central body controller.

On certain vehicles, heat buildup can occur under the engine cover, potentially resulting in an underhood fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will install an updated engine cover.
