2020 Spartan Gladiator Recall

On certain fire trucks, a loose screw connection in the load center (circuit breaker panel) could cause it to overheat. Note: This recall is for fire trucks equipped with certain Square D QO plug-on neutral load centers.

An overheated load center could create the risk of a fire.

Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact them to arrange for an inspection. The load center will be inspected, and repaired as necessary.

On certain fire trucks, the fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injectors may crack and create a fuel leak. Note: This recall only affects fire trucks equipped with a Cummins X12 diesel engine.

A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

Cummins will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your fire truck to a Cummins authorized service center to replace the fuel tubes for cylinders 4, 5 and 6 and install vibration isolators.

On certain fire trucks,the pump shift solenoid may become corroded and fail. If this happens, power to the pump control module may be lost, and the vehicle may not shift into pump mode.

A loss of power to the pump control module can cause a loss of water pressure for fighting fires. This could delay emergency response and increase the risk of injury.

Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the pump shift solenoid.

On certain fire trucks, a defect in the power steering pump could cause it to fail. If this happens, there could be a loss of power steering assist.

A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Spartan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your fire truck to a dealer to replace the power steering pump.

On certain vehicles, the fuel rail assembly could develop a leak. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a Cummins L9 or ISX12 diesel engine.

A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Cummins authorized service center to inspect the fuel rail. If damage is found, the fuel rail and fuel lines will be replaced. If no damage is found, the fuel rail will be reassembled with new crush washers using a special tool.

On certain vehicles equipped with a Weldon Vista IV control panel, an electrical problem could cause the screen to not work properly. As a result, the operator may not be able to control or access certain vehicle functions. Depending on the vehicle configuration, this can affect the emergency warning lights, patient care devices and/or cause the rearview camera image not to display.

Emergency personnel that do not have immediate access to vehicle controls could create a delay in emergency response. Additionally, a rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact a dealer to make arrangements to repair or replace the Vista display screen(s), as necessary.

On certain fire trucks, the air line for the parking brake may loosen and come out of its fitting. If this happens while the vehicle is moving, the parking brake could apply without warning.

A parking brake that applies suddenly while driving could increase the risk of a crash.

Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to an authorized repair facility to inspect and retighten the parking brake control line, as necessary.
