On certain aerial devices, voltage spikes in the power distribution module could damage the transfer case control module. As a result, the system could detect the wrong driving mode selection. This could cause poor handling and/or reduced braking, and lead to a loss of control.
A loss of control could create the risk of a crash. Additionally, reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
To reduce the safety risk, Altec recommends not to use the vehicle until the recall repairs are completed if any 4x4 warning messages are turned on. Altec will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact Altec Service to add a diode to the ignition power circuit.
On certain aerial devices, the front axle capacity may be too low. As a result, the vehicle could be overloaded. This could cause poor handling and lead to a loss of control. Note: This recall only affects certain Ford E350 van chassis with gross axle weight rating (GAWR) of 1837 kg (4050 lb.) or 1905 kg (4200 lb.).

Altec Industries will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a Ford dealership or an authorized service facility to install upgraded front coil springs and hardware. Additionally, Altec Industries will provide you with a new compliance label with updated information.
On certain aerial devices, the wiring in the engine compartment may have been routed incorrectly. As a result, the wiring could become damaged by contact with the hood. If this happens, the wiring could short circuit and melt.
Wiring that overheats and melts could create the risk of a fire.
Altec Industries will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact Altec Service to inspect and, if necessary, re-route the wiring and fuse block. To reduce the safety risk, Altec advises to periodically inspect the wiring for signs of damage until the recall repairs are completed.
On certain vehicles, water could leak into the strobe light assembly. If this happens, the strobe light could short circuit.
A short circuit can create the risk of a fire.
Altec Industries will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect the strobe light assembly, and replace it if necessary.
Over time, the 12-V power wire for the boom stow sensor on certain aerial devices could be damaged by contact with a sharp edge. If this happens, the wire could short circuit and blow the fuse for the ignition circuit. This can cause the engine to shut off suddenly while driving.
A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.
Altec Industries will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact Altec Service to add a relay that is fused separately from the ignition circuit.
On certain aerial devices, the 120 V electrical outlet from the generator does not have proper circuit protection.
An electrical outlet that does not have circuit protection could create a fire risk.
Altec Industries will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact Altec Service to install a new ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet with a circuit breaker and new wiring. Altec advises that you should only plug in appliances or tools that draw less than 20 A.
