On certain school buses, the starter cable may have been incorrectly routed and could chafe against the steel braided power steering hose. Continued contact could wear through the power cable's insulation, which could result in an electrical short circuit. An electrical short could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, install a clamp to prevent further contact. Damaged power steering hoses or starter cables will be replaced.

On certain buses, the power cables running to the power distribution unit stud & the driver's control module stud may have been installed with the eyelet lug flat side up. Vibration may wear the insulation permitting direct contact between the bare lug power distribution unit & driver's control module, which could lead to a direct short in the electrical system. This could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, correct the orientation of the power cable lug.

On certain buses, the brake hoses from the master cylinder to the chassis frame may have been improperly routed or retained. This could allow the hoses to chafe against body and/or chassis components which could cause a leak in the hydraulic brake system. Brake fluid leakage could ultimately result in a reduction of braking capability, which could increase the vehicle's stopping distance and cause a crash with personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the brake hoses. In addition, the brake hoses will be repositioned, loom added at the appropriate location, and properly retained.

On certain school buses, in extreme cold weather, the microswitches used internally to position the stop arm sign in the open and closed positions may malfunction, causing the sign to open or close in an improper position, or to not open at all. Should the stop arm not perform properly, a child or pedestrian may be endangered by passing vehicles should the motorist not stop at the correct location. Correction: Dealers will retrofit the stop arm with a switch pack that is not sensitive to extreme cold weather.

On certain school and non-school buses, an electrical short could occur in the crossing arm circuit or the 8-way warning light circuit, causing the MOSFET (a heavy duty transistor with built in circuit protection) to trip, resulting in an inadvertent engine shutdown. Non school bus Vision conventional buses are being included in the recall population to eliminate the ready accessibility of this ignition sensitive circuit to post delivery accessory additions. Correction: Dealers will relocate these circuits to a separate circuit protected by a breaker on school bus units with crossing arm and/or 8-way warning light. On non-school bus units, the hot wire from the body connector to the terminal block will be removed.

On certain vehicles, the under-hood firewall location of the air brake manifold may permit rainwater entry into the parking brake exhaust port fitting of the manifold. In freezing weather, this water could form ice blocking the exhaust port. When this occurs, the parking brake does not operate as designed. In the event that this condition should occur and the parking brake failed to apply, the bus could roll away resulting in property damage or personal injury. Correction: Dealer will install an air brake tubing extension to the exhaust port to relocate the opening away from the air brake valve manifold to prevent the potential for water to enter the exhaust port.

On certain vehicles, the bus bar that connects the ammeter shunt to the engine air intake grid heater Megafuse was incorrectly installed. The improper installation of this bus bar creates excessive electrical resistance and potential overheating in the grid heater power circuit. This additional resistance could result in overheating at the Megafuse holder with potential for fire in the engine compartment at the Megafuse assembly. Correction: Dealer will install a spacer bar in the Megafuse holder to ensure proper installation of the bus bar.

On certain vehicles, the fully loomed power cables that run from the starter to the power distribution unit may chafe against the bottom corner of the front floor panel resulting in an electrical short. As a result, the engine could stall and in worst cases, an underhood fire could occur. Correction: Dealer will install a revised cable mounting bracket and reroute the power cables.
