On certain electric school buses, the 12 V power cables may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the cable(s) could loosen and cause a loss of power to the wheels. This could also cause the braking assist, steering assist and/or instrument cluster not to work.
A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A loss of power brakes can cause an increase in brake pedal force and lead to an increase in stopping distance. A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort. An instrument cluster that doesn't work could cause warnings, tell-tales and gauges not to display. These issues could increase the risk of a crash.

On certain electric school buses, a software calibration error could cause the anti-rollback feature to activate. This could happen when the bus is in reverse, pointed downhill, and the driver releases the brakes. As a result, the bus could move backwards uphill faster than a driver expects.

On certain school buses equipped with a Ford 6.8 L propane (LPG) engine, the right-hand parking brake lever cable may come in contact with the propane fuel supply line. Over time, this could cause damage to the line and result in a fuel leak.

The fuel line should be inspected for signs of contact and wear before using the bus. Blue Bird will notify owners and dealers by mail and provide them with instructions for how to inspect the fuel line for damage, and replace them as necessary. On certain school buses, the nut that attaches the steering wheel to the steering shaft may not have been properly tightened. If the nut loosens, the steering wheel could detach and cause a loss of steering control.
A loss of steering control can create the risk of a crash.
Blue Bird will notify owners by mail and provide instructions for how to inspect the torque of the steering wheel nut. If it is not properly tightened, the nut must be torqued as indicated in the recall instructions.
Certain school bus seats with integrated 3-point seat belts may not have been installed correctly. On these buses, the reinforcement washers may be missing under the floor. As a result, the seats could move in a crash.
Seats that are not installed correctly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash.
Blue Bird will notify owners by mail and provide instructions for how to inspect the bus to ensure the seats are installed correctly. If any parts are missing, new hardware must be installed according to the recall instructions.
On certain school buses, the castle nut that attaches the steering arm to the drag link may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the drag link could separate and cause a loss of steering control.
A loss of steering control could create the risk of a crash.
Blue Bird will notify owners by mail and provide instructions for how to inspect and tighten the castle nuts that attach the drag link. No replacement parts are required for this recall.
On certain school buses, the parking brake may not have been adjusted correctly. As a result, it may not hold the bus when parked. Under certain conditions, like while parked on an incline, this could allow the bus to roll away.
A parked bus that moves unexpectedly could increase the risk injury and/or a crash.
You should park the bus on a level surface and properly chock the wheels until the parking brake assembly has been inspected. Blue Bird will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to an authorized repair facility to have the parking brake assembly inspected and adjusted, as necessary.

Certain school buses do not meet the joint strength requirements of the Canadian regulations. In a crash, the ceiling joint could separate.

The company will notify all owners by mail and provide them with directions for how to have the roof inspected and repaired, as necessary. Part of the inspection will include counting the number of rivets used to mount the roof panels. Any 8 inch roof section that is found to have less than 6 rivets will require repair.
