NOTE: LOW CAB FORWARD TRUCKS, 1979-89. STEERING GEAR MOUNTING BRACKET WELDS MAY CRACK UNDER HIGH DRY PARK CYCLE LOADING CONDITIONS. THIS COULD LEAD TO EVENTUAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. CORRECTION: STEERING GEAR MOUNTING BRACKETS WILL BE REPLACED WITH A REDESIGNED BRACKET ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.

Issue Description

THE ALCOA 883400 SERIES HUB-PILOTED FORGED DISC WHEELS ON THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITH THE PILOT BORES BELOW THE MINIMUM SPECIFIED DIAMETER. THIS COULD INTERFERE WITH PROPER MOUNTING AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE THE WHEELS TO RUN LOOSE. PROLONGED OPERATION MAY RESULT IN STUDS BREAKING AND WHEEL LOSS. CORRECTION: WHEELS WILL BE INSPECTED AND THOSE WITH PILOT BORES BELOW THE MINIMUM SPECIFICATION WILL BE REPLACED.

THE REAR SUSPENSION TOP TORQUE RODS ARE MANUFACTURED BY WELDING TWO ANGLED TUBES TOGETHER. THESE WELDS MAY FAIL DUE TO INADEQUATE PENETRATION CAUSING THE TORQUE ROD TO FAIL WITHOUT WARNING AND ALLOWING THE REAR AXLE(S) TO MOVE OUT OF POSITION RESULTING IN VEHICLE INSTABILITY AND LOSS OF CONTROL. CORRECTION: WELDED TOP TORQUE RODS WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE PIECE TYPE.
