2019 International Hv Recall

On certain trucks equipped with an automatic transmission and the auto neutral feature, when the engine RPM increases for the stationary power take off (PTO), it can overcome the parking brake if the transmission is in drive or reverse gear. As a result, the truck may move suddenly.

Sudden and unexpected movement of the truck could increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the body control module (BCM) software.

On certain trucks, the connecting rod bushings could fail due to a manufacturing defect. This could cause an engine failure that can result in a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: This is an expansion of recall 21505 (Transport Canada Recall 2021-240).

A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a stalled vehicle could also increase the risk of crash.

Navistar will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer install a detection system to warn a driver if there is a problem with the connecting rod bushing. The system will cause a red engine warning light to turn on if a problem is detected, before a connecting rod failure happens. Engines found with a suspect connecting rod will be repaired.

On certain trucks, the fuel rail assembly could develop a leak. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a Cummins L9 or ISX12 diesel engine.

A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

Cummins will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a Cummins authorized service center to inspect the fuel rail. If damage is found, the fuel rail and fuel lines will be replaced. If no damage is found, the fuel rail will be reassembled with new crush washers.

On certain trucks, the welds that attach the trailer hitch may crack due to improper welding. As a result, the hitch could detach from the truck while towing a trailer. Note: This recall only affects certain trucks with trailer hitches installed by Commercial Truck Equipment.

A trailer that detaches from a truck could create a risk of a crash.

Commercial Truck Equipment will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to inspect the trailer hitch and repair or replace it, as necessary. You should stop using the trailer hitch until the inspection and repair have been completed.

On certain trucks, the hubs on the steer axle may not be filled with the proper amount of lubricant or may not contain any lubricant at all. This may result in wheel bearing damage, and in extreme cases, could cause a wheel to separate from the truck.

A wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the lubricant level on the steer axle hubs. Any wheel end components and spindles that are found damaged will be replaced.

On certain vehicles equipped with a Cummins B6.7 diesel engine, the electric fuel heater could overheat and melt. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall 2019-148. Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair.

A fuel heater that overheats could create the risk of a fire. This could also cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Cummins will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Cummins authorized service center to disable the fuel heater. The fuel heater will be replaced by installing a plug in its place. Additionally, the fuse supplying electrical power to the fuel heater will be removed and a cover will also be installed over the wire harness connector.

On certain vehicles equipped with a Cummins B6.7 diesel engine, the electric fuel heater could overheat and melt.

A fuel heater that overheats could create the risk of a fire. This could also cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Cummins will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Cummins service location to install a new fuel heater and correct the wiring to the fuel heater. Additionally, the fuel heater fuse will be changed to a 30 amp fuse, and the fuse size information in the owner’s manual will be updated.

On certain vehicles equipped with an electronic clutch actuator (ECA), the clutch may have been manufactured improperly and could fail. If this occurs, the broken clutch components could prevent the transmission from disengaging or shifting to neutral. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, even if the parking brake is applied, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will recalibrate the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

A failure of this component (powertrain) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).

On certain trucks, when a trailer is being towed, the combined stop and turn signal lights of the trailer may not illuminate when the brakes are applied. If this occurs, a following driver may not be alerted that the vehicle ahead is braking, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will re-wire the trailer brake light circuits on the trucks.

A failure of this component (lights and instruments) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).

On certain vehicles, the spring-actuated parking brake may have been improperly assembled. This could result in an internal air leak or a complete separation of the parking brake from the service brake chamber, either of which would cause a loss of braking on the affected wheel assembly. This could cause a sudden, unexpected increase in stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace affected brake chamber assemblies.

A failure of this component (brakes) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).

On certain vehicles, the seat belt D-ring mounting bolts may break due to a material defect. If this occurs, the seat belt may not properly restrain the seat occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect the driver and passenger D-ring mounting bolts and replace them as necessary.

A failure of this component (seats and restraints) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
