2023 International Hv Recall

On certain trucks, the cable connection at the battery auxiliary post could contact the hold-down bracket. If this happens, there could be a short circuit. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2025-428. Trucks that were repaired under that recall also require this repair.

A short circuit could increase the risk of a fire, even while the truck is parked and turned off.

To reduce the safety risk, International Motors recommends that you should park your truck outside and away from other vehicles or buildings until the recall repairs are completed. International Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to insulate the battery hold down bracket and install spacers between the batteries.

On certain trucks, poor signal strength could cause the electronic control unit (ECU) to stop working or not to work properly. As a result, some safety systems may not work, including the antilock braking system, automatic traction control, electronic stability control, active cruise control and the collision mitigation system.

On certain vehicles, the warning light for the antilock brake system (ABS) doesn't stay on when there's a problem with the system, and the vehicle is moving.

A driver that is not warned about a problem with the antilock brake system could have an increased risk of a crash.

On certain trucks equipped with an automatic transmission, when the engine RPM increases for the stationary power take off (PTO), it can overcome the parking brake if the transmission is in drive or reverse gear. As a result, the truck may move suddenly.

Sudden and unexpected movement of the truck could increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealership to update the engine control module (ECM) software to enable the PTO neutral interlock.

On certain vehicles, the lock nuts for multiple front and rear suspension and steering parts may not have been manufactured correctly. As a result, the nut(s) could loosen. If this happens, there could be a sudden change in vehicle stability and/or a loss of steering control.

Navistar will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the affected hex flange lock nuts.

On certain trucks, the tie rod end clamps could crack and loosen. If this happens, the threads on the tie rod end could become damaged and the tie rod end could separate. This could cause a loss of steering control on one wheel.

A loss of steering control could create the risk of a crash.

Navistar will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealership to replace both tie rod end clamps.

On certain trucks, a problem in the engine control module (ECM) could cause a short circuit. If this happens, the engine could stall and you may not be able to restart it.

A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

Cummins will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a Cummins authorized service center to replace the engine control module.

On certain trucks and buses, the steering gear may not have been assembled correctly. As a result, the steering gear could break and cause a loss of steering.
