2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Recall

On certain vehicles, the front suspension knuckles could crack and/or break. A front knuckle that breaks while driving could cause a sudden loss of vehicle control.

A loss of vehicle control could increase the risk of a crash.

Land Rover will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the front suspension knuckles. If the knuckles aren't cracked, the dealer will install retaining brackets. If cracks are found, the dealer will replace the knuckle(s).

On certain vehicles, the doors may not latch properly when they are closed. As a result, the doors could open while driving.

A door that opens suddenly while driving could create the risk of injury and/or increase the risk of a crash.

Land Rover will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the unilatch keyless vehicle (KV) software.

On certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. This recall applies to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador).

A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the aluminum bolts with steel ones and apply a wax sealer. If a bolt is found broken or breaks during the repair, a replacement steering rack will be installed.

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection. The functionality of the Airbag Status Indicator Lamp may have been incorrectly described in the owner’s manual. This will not affect the operation of the Occupant Sensor System but an occupant that does not correctly understand the airbag functionality may be at an increased risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Owners will receive a handbook supplement containing the proper information on the airbag system to add to the owners manual.

On certain vehicles, if doors fail to latch properly in the primary or secondary closed position, there would be no indication provided to vehicle occupants of the unlatched door condition. This could result in a door opening while the vehicle is in motion, which could increase the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant seated next to the door, or result in damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update the vehicle software.

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection. The passenger seat occupant classification system (OCS) may have been calibrated incorrectly during the manufacturing process. This could result in the non-deployment of an airbag, which would increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant in a crash where airbag deployment is warranted. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the occupant classification system (OCS).

A failure of this component (airbag) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

On certain vehicles, the brake vacuum hose may not have been routed properly and could rupture, causing a loss of vacuum assistance in the braking system. This could increase stopping distances, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and re-route or replace the hose if damaged.

A failure of this component (brakes) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

On certain vehicles, a fault in the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) could impair the vehicle's ability to determine the location of the individual tire pressure monitoring sensors. This would render the system inactive, displaying a "TPMS system fault" message on the instrument cluster. An inoperative TPMS could allow underinflated tires to go unnoticed by the driver, which could affect vehicle stability and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software.

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 - Tire Selection and Rims. The Tire and Loading Information Label was omitted at time of vehicle assembly. This could result in tire under or over-inflation or vehicle overloading, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a Tire and Loading Information Label.
