2019 Mercedes-Benz A Class Recall

On certain vehicles, moisture could enter the driver-side door lock microswitch and cause it to corrode. As a result, the microswitch may fail to automatically engage the parking brake and/or the auto park feature when the door is opened. If this happens, the vehicle could roll away. Note: This problem could also cause the radio and/or interior lights to remain on after exiting the vehicle.

A parked vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash.

To reduce the safety risk, Mercedes-Benz recommends that you should always use the parking brake when you park. Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the driver-side door lock.

On certain vehicles equipped with the emergency calling (eCall) system, the SIM card for the communications module could disable itself. If this happens, the eCall system would not work properly when there is a crash or when the SOS button is pressed.

If the eCall system does not work in an emergency situation, there could be a delay in response from emergency services.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to each vehicle. If the update cannot be completed successfully, you will be notified to schedule an appointment to have the update performed by a dealer.

On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the central display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear.

A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the rearview camera software.

On certain vehicles, the front subframe could corrode over time. If this happens, suspension or steering parts could eventually detach from it. This could affect steering control.

A loss of steering control could increase the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front subframe (integral carrier) and replace it, if necessary.

On certain vehicles, small particles could damage the seals between the fuel rail and fuel injectors. If this happens, there could be a fuel leak in the engine compartment.

A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the fuel rail and fuel injectors.

On certain vehicles, a label on the headlamp assembly may contain incorrect information for a service technician. As a result, the headlamps may not get adjusted correctly after a repair. This could cause glare and/or confusion for oncoming drivers. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with LED headlamps.

Headlamps that cause glare or confusion for oncoming drivers could increase the risk of a crash.

Mercedez-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the headlamps.

On certain vehicles, the screws holding the engine bay fuse box could become loose over time. If this happens, the fuse box could vibrate excessively, which could damage the fuses inside. Damaged fuses could cause certain vehicle functions to stop working without warning. As a result, the engine could turn off, there could be a loss of power steering assist, and/or the ESP and active brake assist systems could turn off.

A sudden loss of engine power, power steering assist, ESP system and/or active brake assist could increase the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect and tighten the screws holding the fuse box, if necessary.

Certain vehicles may not display the correct warning indicator when there is a problem with the brake system. As a result, the brake system malfunction indicator lamp ("BRAKE") might be displayed instead of the required indicator lamp ("(!)"). Canadian regulations require the use of a symbol, instead of text.

This small error does not affect the function of the brake system or the accuracy of the information displayed.

This is not a recall. Mercedes Benz has made changes to ensure that all new vehicles display the correct brake system malfunction indicator symbol.

On certain vehicles, the air conditioning drain hose might be installed incorrectly. This could allow water to leak inside the vehicle. If this happens, electrical components could short circuit. This could affect different parts, such as the airbag control unit, fuel pump and emergency call functions. It could also result in reduced engine power or cause the vehicle not to start. Note: If this issue is present in your vehicle, you might notice wet carpets in the driver or passenger footwell and fogged windows.

A loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. An airbag system that does not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect how the air conditioning hose is installed and correct it, if necessary.

On certain vehicles, the windshield wipers were not adjusted correctly at the factory. This could cause the driver’s wiper to clear a slightly smaller area of the windshield than it should. Canadian regulations require a minimum percentage of the windshield glass area that is cleaned by the wiper.

This small error would not affect a driver’s visibility and is unlikely to affect safety.

On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause a delay in the appearance of the rearview camera image. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display within 2 seconds of shifting the transmission into reverse gear.

A rearview camera that is slow to turn on could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the rearview camera software.

On certain vehicles, the driver-front airbag module may not be properly attached. This could cause the airbag module to separate from its mount in a crash.

An airbag that separates from its mount may not function correctly and could create an increased risk of injury in a crash.

Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect and replace the driver-front airbag module, as required.

On certain cars, the adaptive high-beam assist system may not function as intended. The camera software may not perform to specifications and automatically lower the light beams when oncoming traffic is detected. Note: The high-beams can be turned off by turning the light switch to “manual light” mode.

If a driver is unable to turn off the high-beams, the increased glare for other traffic could increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their car to a dealer for a software update for the adaptive high-beam-assist system.
