2023 Micro Bird G5 Commercial Bus Recall

On certain buses, the engine oil lines could become damaged by contact with the engine drive belt pulley. As a result, oil could leak onto hot components in the engine compartment. Note: This recall only affects certain buses built on a GM chassis and equipped with a second air conditioning compressor.

Oil that leaks onto hot components can create the risk of a fire.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

On certain buses, the anchor screw caps for the wheelchair restraint system may not have been installed properly. As a result, the tie-downs may not lock correctly and could detach in a crash. Note: This recall only affects certain buses equipped with a Q'Straint Slide N' Click wheelchair restraint system.

Tie-downs that detach in a crash could increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, secure the anchor screw caps for the wheelchair restraint system. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the repairs performed at a Micro Bird dealership.

On certain electric buses, the power steering pump could fail when starting the vehicle or while driving. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power steering assist.

A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds, and increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to update the power steering pump software.

On certain buses, the power cable for the air conditioning control board may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the cable could loosen and overheat. Note: This recall only affects certain buses equipped with a Spheros ceiling-mounted air conditioning system.

Wiring that overheats could create the risk of a fire.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to secure the air conditioning control board power cable.

On certain buses equipped with power-assisted doors, the rod-eye ring could delaminate. As a result, the rod attached to the door panels could separate from the opening gear and become loose. If this happens, the door panel(s) could open unexpectedly.

A door that opens unexpectedly could increase the risk of injury to passengers and others.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, repair the rod-eye ring.

On certain buses, the bolts that attach the upper control arms to the frame may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the upper control arms could separate from the frame. If this happens, there could be a loss of steering control.

A loss of steering control could create a risk of a crash.

Dynamic Specialty Vehicles will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to tighten the bolts for the upper control arms. Dynamic Specialty Vehicles will also help arrange for a wheel alignment, as necessary.

On certain buses, the U-bolts that attach the rear axle to the suspension could break. As a result, the axle could slide on the leaf spring and/or detach. This could cause poor handling and lead to a loss of control. Note: This recall only affects certain buses built on GM chassis and equipped with supplemental leaf springs.

A loss of control could create the risk of a crash. An axle that detaches could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the leaf spring U-bolts and screws.

On certain buses, the exterior handle for the rear emergency door may not be strong enough. As a result, the handle could break and cause the emergency door not to be able to be opened from the outside.

A door that can't be opened could slow your exit from the bus in an emergency. This could also delay emergency responders from entering the bus. Both issues could increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to replace the rear emergency door exterior handle.

On a small number of electric buses, a software problem could cause the windshield defrost system not to work. As a result, the vehicles may not meet the requirements of Canadian regulations.

A windshield defroster that doesn't work could cause reduced visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to replace the high-voltage coolant heater control module.

On certain buses, the wrong hardware may have been used to attach the seats to the floor. As a result, the seats could detach in a crash. Note: This recall only affects buses built with an aluminum floor, and seats with seat belts.

A seat that moves or detaches could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a Micro Bird dealer to have your vehicle(s) repaired.

On certain G5 electric buses built on a Ford chassis, the AC charging harness could overheat while using a Level 2 charger.

A charging harness that overheats could create a fire risk.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a local dealer. Ecotuned Technologies will provide parts and instructions for how to correct this defect. Until the recall repairs are completed, Micro Bird advises to charge your bus using outside charging equipment only and to keep a safe distance between vehicles and buildings during charging.

On certain buses, the power cable for the air conditioning control board may have a loose connection. As a result, the circuit board could overheat and melt.

A circuit board that overheats could create the risk of a fire.
