2019 Volkswagen Jetta Recall

On certain vehicles, a seal for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank could fail. As a result, fuel may flow directly into the evaporative emission control system (EVAP). If this happens, fuel could leak from the charcoal canister. Note: This problem could cause a fuel odor, the fuel nozzle to stop early and/or fuel to spill when refueling.

A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the suction jet pump.

On certain vehicles equipped with a key ignition switch, a fuse in the ignition switch could fail. If this happens, the vehicle can lose power while driving and cause the engine to stall. This could also cause the airbag system and turn signals not to work.

A sudden loss of power could increase the risk of a crash. An airbag system that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the ignition switch.

On certain vehicles, the warning label for the engine block heater cable is written in English only. As a result, a French user may not receive important safety information about how to use the engine block heater. A label that is not provided in both official languages could create confusion.

User confusion could increase the risk of injury when trying to use the block heater.

The company will mail each owner a new label for the block heater cable. If you would like help installing the label, you can contact a dealer for assistance.

On a small number of Jetta GLI models, one or both of the front wheel bearings could be defective. This could lead to poor driving performance and/or cause a wheel to break.

A sudden change in vehicle handling or a broken wheel could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.

Volkswagen will contact owners by telephone and instruct you to stop driving your vehicle. Volkswagen will arrange free towing to the nearest dealership. The front wheel bearing assemblies, wheels, and wheel bolts will be replaced.

On certain cars, the right-front daytime running light (DRL) may not work or may not be bright enough to meet Canadian regulations. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall 2019-292. Vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair.

A daytime running light that is dimmed or not working could make the car less visible to others and increase the risk of a crash.

Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your car to a dealer to inspect the right-front headlight. The heat sink or complete right headlight will be replaced as necessary.

On certain cars, the right-front daytime running light (DRL) may not work or may not be bright enough to meet Canadian regulations.

A daytime running light that is dimmed or not working could make the car less visible to other drivers and increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their car to a dealer to replace the right headlight.

On certain vehicles, the rear suspension coil springs may not have been properly manufactured and could break over time. This could cause damage to a rear tire, resulting in rapid air loss and/or tire failure.

A rear tire failure could affect vehicle control. Additionally, a broken coil spring could also create a road hazard for other motorists. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have both of the rear axle coil springs replaced. If a broken coil spring is found, the rear tires should be inspected for damage and replaced as required.

On certain vehicles, an incorrect driver-front airbag may have been installed during a past service/repair visit. As the airbag was not designed to be used in the vehicle, it may not work correctly.

In a crash with an airbag deployment, the airbag may not work correctly. This could increase the risk of injury.

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver-front airbag replaced with the correct part.

On certain vehicles, the rear suspension coil springs may not have been properly manufactured and could break over time. This could result in damage to a rear tire, resulting in rapid air loss and/or tire failure, which could affect vehicle control. Additionally, a broken coil spring could create a road hazard for other motorists. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.  Correction: Dealers will replace both of the rear axle coil springs. If a broken coil spring is found, the rear tires should be inspected for damage and replaced as required.

A failure of this component (suspension) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).

Certain vehicles do not to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 114 - Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. Due to incorrect programming, the vehicle may fail to provide an audible warning when a driver opens their door after turning off the ignition, and the key is left in the ignition switch. This could increase the risk of vehicle theft. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the instrument cluster.

A failure of this component (lights and instruments) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).

Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The right (passenger side) headlamp may not be positioned correctly, which is contrary to the requirements of the standard. This may reduce the night time visibility for the driver, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the right (passenger side) headlamp.

A failure of this component (lights and instruments) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
