2020 Volvo 9700 Recall

The compliance label on certain vehicles incorrectly lists that the vehicle is compliant to all U.S. and Canadian standards.

This small error does not affect safety, as all of the vehicles are fully compliant to Canadian standards and regulations.

This is not a recall. Volvo Trucks has made changes to ensure that all new vehicles have the correct statement of compliance printed on the compliance label.

Certain buses were built with headlamps that may not meet the performance requirements of Canadian regulations. As a result, the headlamp beam pattern may be too bright in some areas and not be bright enough in others.

Headlamps that are too bright could cause glare for oncoming drivers. Headlamps that are not bright enough may reduce visibility. Both of these issues could increase the risk of a crash.

Volvo Buses will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

On certain buses, the C1 drive hub in the transmission may fail. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the drive wheels when the bus comes to a stop. This can disable the bus and make it unable to move under its own power. Note: This recall only affects certain buses built with an Allison B500 transmission.

A bus that is disabled could create the need for a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury.

Volvo will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Volvo service center to update the Transmission Control Module software.
