On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition switch could allow the switch to move out of the "run" position if the key ring is carrying added weight or the driver unintentionally bumps the ignition key with their knee. An unintended change in ignition switch position while driving may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicle’s safety features including the frontal airbags. Correction: Dealers will replace the ignition switch and lock cylinder. Important note: Until the correction is performed, drivers should adjust their seat to allow clearance between their knee and the ignition key, and remove all items from the key ring.

This could cause the transfer case to shift into or through the neutral position, which may allow the vehicle to roll away, even with the transmission in the PARK position. Should the vehicle roll away, it could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or a bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the final drive controller with updated software.
