On certain trucks, the engine configuration makes servicing fuel injection lines difficult when using traditional tools. It is possible for fuel leaks to develop following recall campaign 2006258 (Mack SC0317) or when line removal is required to gain access to other engine components. Underhood fuel leakage could result in a vehicle fire. Correction: Dealers will install an updated fuel injection line that offers better clamping surface when torqued. This will be done using specially designed tools to ensure correct torque is applied.

Certain vehicles were equipped with an improper power steering high pressure hose between the power steering pump and the steering gear. The hose installed was rated to have a working pressure of 500 PSI instead of the specified 2000 PSI. The hose could develop a leak or burst while in service. If this were to happen, the power assist feature of the steering system would be lost but the actual steering control would still be maintained. Correction: The power steering high pressure hose will be replaced with the proper one.

A condition exists on the auxiliary drive shaft of the e-tech engine that causes the loss of power steering on vehicles where the power steering pump is mounted off the front of the engine. This could result in the loss of power steering. Correction: Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the nut that holds the gear to the auxiliary drive shaft.
