2022 Micro Bird G5 School Bus Recall

On certain school buses, the anchor screw caps for the wheelchair restraint system may not have been installed properly. As a result, the tie-downs may not lock correctly and could detach in a crash. Note: This recall only affects certain school buses equipped with a Q'Straint Slide N' Click wheelchair restraint system.

Tie-downs that detach in a crash could increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, secure the anchor screw caps for the wheelchair restraint system. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the repairs performed at a Micro Bird dealership.

On certain electric school buses, the power steering pump could fail when starting the vehicle or while driving. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power steering assist.

A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds, and increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to update the power steering pump software.

On certain school buses, the power cable for the air conditioning control board may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the cable could loosen and overheat. Note: This recall only affects certain school buses equipped with a Spheros ceiling-mounted air conditioning system.

Wiring that overheats could create the risk of a fire.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to secure the air conditioning control board power cable.

On certain school buses, the U-bolts that attach the rear axle to the suspension could break. As a result, the axle could slide on the leaf spring and/or detach. This could cause poor handling and lead to a loss of control. Note: This recall only affects certain school buses built on GM chassis and equipped with supplemental leaf springs.

A loss of control could create the risk of a crash. An axle that detaches could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the leaf spring U-bolts and screws.

On certain school buses, the exterior handle for the rear emergency door may not be strong enough. As a result, the handle could break and cause the emergency door not to be able to be opened from the outside.

A door that can't be opened could slow your exit from the bus in an emergency. This could also delay emergency responders from entering the bus. Both issues could increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to replace the rear emergency door exterior handle.

On certain school buses equipped with seats mounted on rails, the wrong hardware may have been used to attach the seats. As a result, the seats could move or detach in a crash. Note: This recall only affects certain school buses equipped with two-place seats and seat belts.

A seat that moves or detaches could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a Micro Bird dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the seat fasteners.

On certain school buses, the roof hatch (emergency exit) may not have a French label. Canadian regulations require labels to be in English and French.

An emergency exit that's not properly labeled may create confusion. This could increase the risk of injury in an emergency situation.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, replace the label. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the repairs performed at a Micro Bird dealership.

On certain electric school buses, a software problem could cause the windshield defrost system not to work. As a result, the vehicles may not meet the requirements of Canadian regulations.

A windshield defroster that doesn't work could cause reduced visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to replace the high-voltage coolant heater control module.

On certain G5 electric school buses built on a Ford chassis, the AC charging harness could overheat while using a Level 2 charger.

A charging harness that overheats could create a fire risk.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a local dealer. Ecotuned Technologies will provide parts and instructions for how to correct this defect. Until the recall repairs are completed, Micro Bird advises to charge your bus using outside charging equipment only and to keep a safe distance between vehicles and buildings during charging.

On certain school buses, the seat-level rub rails on the outside of the bus may not have been attached correctly. As a result, there may be reduced protection in a side impact crash.

A rub rail that is not attached correctly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a Micro Bird dealer to have your vehicle(s) inspected and repaired, as necessary.

On certain G5 electric school buses built on a Ford chassis, the power steering pressure line may not be properly connected to the brake booster. As a result, power steering fluid could leak and cause a loss of power steering and power brake assist.

A loss of power brakes can cause a sudden increase in brake pedal force and lead to an increase in stopping distance. A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds. Both could increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a Micro Bird dealer for an inspection of the connection between the power steering pressure line and the Hydroboost unit. The power steering line will be replaced if the connection is not secure.

On certain school buses, the power cable for the air conditioning control board may have a loose connection. As a result, the circuit board could overheat and melt.

A circuit board that overheats could create the risk of a fire.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a Micro Bird dealer to have your vehicle(s) repaired.

On a small number of school buses, the wheel alignment ring may have been installed incorrectly. As a result, the alignment ring could move out of place and cause a change in wheel alignment. This can cause a loss of vehicle stability.

Reduced vehicle stability could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your school bus to an authorized service facility to re-align the wheels.

On certain school buses, the service door may not be adjusted correctly. As a result, the door panels may get stuck when the emergency release handle is used, or may not open when force is applied to the door. Additionally, the exterior emergency release handle may not allow the service door to be opened from outside of the bus.

A door that cannot be opened could delay exiting the bus in an emergency. This could also delay emergency response. Both of these issues could increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your bus to a dealer to adjust the service door. Alternatively, Micro Bird will provide owners instructions on how to correctly adjust the service door.
