2022 Nova Bus Lfs Recall

This recall is for engine coolant level sensors installed on certain transit buses or sold as a replacement part. On certain transit buses, the engine coolant level sensor may be defective and could falsely detect a low level of coolant. If this happens, the engine could shut down and cause a loss of power to the wheels. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2025-513. Buses that were repaired under that recall also require this repair.

A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A bus that is disabled could result in a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine coolant level sensor.

On certain transit buses, a problem could cause the control unit to shut down. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels.

A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A bus that is disabled could result in a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury.

On certain transit buses, the driver's seat belt tension-relieving device may not have been installed properly. As a result, the seat belt may not work properly in a crash, and the buses may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations.

A seat belt that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

To reduce the safety risk, Nova Bus recommends not to use the seat belt tension-relieving device until the recall repairs have been completed. Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to remove the seat belt tension-relieving device.

On certain transit buses, the recall repairs completed during Transport Canada recall no. 2025-539 may not be effective. As a result, a second inspection and/or repair is required. This recall is for coolant pumps installed on certain transit buses or sold as a replacement part. On certain transit buses, the cooling pumps for the electrical and/or mechanical cooling packages could fail and cause a loss of power to the wheels. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2025-539.

On certain transit buses, the emergency exit window latch could fail. As a result, the emergency exit window could open during a crash or be difficult to open in an emergency.

An emergency exit window that opens in a crash could increase the risk of injury. An emergency exit that's difficult to open could slow your exit from the bus in an emergency and increase the risk of injury.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to repair the emergency exit window latch.

On certain transit buses, the cooling pumps for the electrical and/or mechanical cooling packages could fail and cause a loss of power to the wheels.

A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A bus that is disabled could result in a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, replace the cooling pump(s).

On certain transit buses, the O-ring for the fuel management module could fail and cause a compressed natural gas (CNG) leak. If this happens, the gas detection alarm could cause the engine to shut down. Note: This recall only affects buses equipped with a CNG engine.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to replace the O-ring in the fuel management module.

Under certain conditions, the electric power steering motor could shut down. As a result, pressure from the power steering pump could return and cause the steering wheel to move suddenly. Note: This recall only affects buses equipped with an electric power steering system.

A steering wheel that moves suddenly could increase the risk of injury.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to install a check valve at the power steering pump inlet.

On certain transit buses, a software problem could cause a turn signal indicator light to stay on instead of flashing when a turn signal is used. As a result, the buses may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations.

A turn signal indicator that doesn't work properly could create confusion and increase the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, update the digital display software.

On certain transit buses, a wiring harness may be too short and could disconnect. Additionally, this problem could allow water to leak into the connector for the wiring harness and cause it to corrode. As a result, both issues could cause a loss of power to the wheels.

A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with a wire extension kit and instructions for how to install it.

On a small number of electric buses, hardware inside the high-voltage battery pack may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the hardware could loosen and detach. If this happens, the loose hardware could cause a short circuit. Note: This recall only affects certain LFSe+ models.

A short circuit in the high-voltage battery can create a fire risk.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and arrange for a service technician to replace the high-voltage battery.

On certain transit buses, a software problem could cause the vehicle control unit to fail. As a result, the high-voltage system could disconnect and cause a loss of power to the wheels.

A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to update the vehicle control unit software.

On certain transit buses, dirt and moisture could enter the air intake and cause the controller for the auxiliary heater to short circuit. If this happens, the windshield defrost system may not work properly.

A short circuit can create a fire risk. A windshield defroster that doesn't work could cause reduced visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to repair the auxiliary heater air intake.

On certain transit buses, the recall repairs completed during Transport Canada recall no. 2023-291 may not be effective. As a result, a second repair is required. On certain transit buses, the driver's seat back panel could interfere with the driver's seat belt. As a result, the driver's seat belt may not retract properly. Note: This recall is an expansion of Transport Canada recall no. 2023-291 and only affects certain buses equipped with a Recaro driver's seat.

A loose seat belt could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Nova Bus advises that if the seat belt is loose after it's buckled, the driver should readjust the seat to eliminate any interference with the seat belt.

On one transit bus, the parking brake air line connections may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the air line could leak and cause the parking brake to apply suddenly while driving without the brake lights turning on.

A parking brake that self-applies while driving without the brake lights turning on could cause a person not to recognize that the vehicle is braking. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus will notify the owner by mail and provide them with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, tighten the parking brake air line connections.

On certain transit buses, the windshield wipers may not have been aligned properly and could cause the wiper blades to become damaged. If this happens, the windshield wipers may not work properly.

Windshield wipers that don't work properly could reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to realign the windshield wipers.

On certain transit buses, the rotary plate for the front door may not have been welded properly. As a result, the plate could disconnect from the mechanism and cause the door to open while the bus is moving.

A door that opens while the bus is moving could create a risk of injury.

On certain transit buses, the ground connection on the bus bar in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) roof unit, may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the connection could loosen and overheat. This problem could also cause the engine to stall.

Wiring that overheats can create the risk of a fire. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, tighten the ground connection.

On certain transit buses, the clamps for the exhaust system may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the exhaust could contact nearby components and cause them to melt. Additionally, exhaust gases could leak into the bus.

Components that melt could create the risk of a fire. Exhaust gases that enter the bus could create the risk of injuries.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, realign the exhaust system and tighten the clamps.

On certain transit buses, the fastener that attaches the sun visor could loosen. If this happens, the sun visor could detach.

A sun visor that detaches could distract the driver and affect visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and secure the sun visor.

On certain buses, a wiring problem with the floor-mounted turn signal switch may cause the turn signals not to work.

Turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when a driver intends to turn or change lanes and could increase the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with directions for how to inspect and repair the floor-mounted turn signal switch wiring and splice blocks.

On a small number of LFS electric buses, the fasteners that connect the high-voltage batteries to the bus bar may have been over-tightened. As a result, the fasteners could break and cause a short circuit.

A short circuit in the high-voltage battery could create a fire risk.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with directions for how to inspect and replace the high-voltage batteries, as necessary.

On certain transit buses, the transmission yoke could separate from the transmission. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels.

A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a bus that is disabled could create the need for a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail. For certain buses, Nova Bus will advise you to contact an authorized Allison Transmission service center to tighten the output shaft yoke bolt. For the other buses, Nova Bus will provide you with instructions for how to tighten the output shaft yoke bolt.

Under certain conditions, road debris could build up on the fuse holder for the electric cooling fans. If this happens, the fuse holder could short circuit and overheat.

An overheated fuse holder could create the risk of a fire.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Nova Bus recommends an inspection for debris accumulation in the fuse holder area and cleaning as required. Also, Nova Bus recommends that you should inspect the fuse holder for heat damage (melting) before driving and to shut off the manual power disconnect switch when the vehicle is parked.

On certain transit buses, the driver's seat back panel could interfere with the driver's seat belt. As a result, the driver's seat belt may not retract properly.

A loose seat belt could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide you with directions for correcting this issue. This may include limiting the recline angle of the of the seat back or adding a spacer on the driver's rear partition. Nova Bus advises that if the seat belt is loose after it's buckled, the driver should readjust the seat to eliminate any interference with the seat belt.

On certain buses, the fasteners securing the steering gearbox mounting plate may loosen and possibly fall out. If this happens, the steering gearbox could move and cause a loss of steering control.

A loss of steering control could increase the risk of a crash.

Nova Bus advises not to drive affected buses until a corrective measure is performed. Nova Bus will notify owners by mail and provide new steering gearbox mounting plate fasteners and instructions for how to replace them.

On certain transit buses, the electric fuse holder for the radiator fans in the engine compartment could corrode and overheat.

An overheated fuse holder could create the risk of a fire.

Nova Bus will notify owners in writing and provide them with directions for cleaning the fuse holder and applying an anti-corrosion coating.
