2019 RAM 1500 Recall

On certain trucks, the second-row seat belt anchors may not be properly attached. As a result, the seat belt(s) could detach in a crash.

A seat belt that detaches could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

FCA Canada will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, secure the second-row seat belt buckle(s) to the body.

On certain trucks, the side curtain airbag inflators may be defective. As a result, the driver and/or passenger side curtain airbag inflator(s) could rupture unexpectedly and metal fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants. Note: This is an expansion of Transport Canada recall 2025-013.

An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury.

FCA Canada will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace the affected side curtain airbag(s).

On certain trucks, the side curtain airbag inflators may be defective. As a result, the driver and/or passenger side curtain airbag inflator(s) could rupture unexpectedly and metal fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants. Note: This recall also affects certain 2016 model year RAM 3500 chassis cab incomplete vehicles.

On certain trucks, a software problem could cause the electronic stability control (ESC) system not to work. As a result, the vehicles may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Note: This problem would cause warning lights for the antilock braking system (ABS), ESC, adaptive cruise control (ACC), and forward collision warning (FCW) to appear on the instrument panel.

An electronic stability control system that doesn't work could increase the risk of a crash.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to update the antilock braking system (ABS) control module software.

On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.0 L diesel engine, a problem with the engine tone wheel could cause a loss of signal to crankshaft position sensor. If this happens, the engine could stall and you may not be able to restart it. Note: Vehicles included in FCA recall W58 (Transport Canada recall 2020-371) are not part of this recall.

A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the powertrain control module. This update will help maintain engine power if the crankshaft position signal is lost.

On certain trucks, the tailgate could unlatch and open while driving. If this happens, cargo that is not secured could fall out of the truck bed and onto the road.

Cargo that falls from the truck bed could create a road hazard for others.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealership to inspect the alignment of the tailgate strikers, and adjust them if necessary.

On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.0 L diesel engine, the high-pressure fuel pump could fail. If this happens, you may notice a change in engine performance, a fuel leak, or a malfunction indicator lamp and/or service electronic throttle control tell-tale may turn on. This could also result in a sudden loss of engine power while driving.

A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the high-pressure fuel pump. Additional fuel system parts may be replaced, if necessary.

On certain trucks, the side curtain airbag inflators could be defective. As a result, the driver and/or passenger side curtain airbag inflator(s) could rupture unexpectedly. If this happens, small pieces of metal could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag and prevent it from inflating properly.

A side curtain airbag inflator that ruptures could create a risk of injury.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect and replace the side curtain airbags, as necessary.

On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the front seat belt retractors. As a result, the seat belts may not work as designed in a crash.

A seat belt that does not work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front seat belts.

On certain trucks with adjustable pedals, the accelerator pedal could get stuck on the all-weather floor mat. If this happens, the truck may not slow down when the driver releases the accelerator pedal. Note: If the driver continues to brake, the brake-throttle override system will close the throttle opening and allow the driver to stop the truck.

A stuck accelerator pedal could lead to unintended acceleration of the truck and increase the risk of a crash.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the all-weather floor mat. You should remove the driver's all-weather floor mat until this recall is completed.

On certain vehicles, the nuts that attach the windshield wiper arms may not have been tightened properly. This could cause the wipers to slip and not clear the windshield properly.

Windshield wipers that do not work properly could affect a driver’s visibility. This could increase the risk of a crash.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to tighten the nuts on the windshield wiper arms.

On certain vehicles, the rearview camera image may be displayed even after the transmission is shifted out of reverse. This could cause a possible distraction for the driver. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to turn off within 10 seconds after shifting from reverse gear.

A driver that is distracted could have an increased risk of a crash.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the radio software.

On certain trucks, a short circuit could occur in the electric power steering system. This can cause an intermittent loss of power steering assist. As a result, there could be sudden changes in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds.

Sudden changes in steering effort could affect a driver’s ability to control the vehicle and may increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the electric power steering gear.

On certain trucks equipped with a 3.0-L EcoDiesel engine, the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler could crack internally and leak. If this happens, a driver may notice a low coolant level or a heater that does not work properly.

A cracked EGR cooler could create the risk of an engine fire.

FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the EGR cooler. Dealers will also inspect intake manifold and replace it as necessary.

On certain vehicles, the instrument cluster may not work.

An instrument cluster that does not work may prevent an operator from receiving information regarding the status of vehicle systems. This could increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the instrument panel cluster replaced.

An internal error in the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) could cause the airbag system to turn off. If this happens, the airbags would not deploy in a crash. Note: This problem would cause the airbag warning light to stay on in the instrument cluster.

Airbags that do not deploy in a crash could increase the risk of injury.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicles to a dealer to inspect the Occupant Restraint Controller. If fault codes are found, the ORC will be replaced. If no fault codes are present, the ORC software will be updated.

On certain 4x4 trucks, the rear driveshaft may not have been properly welded. As a result, a weld could break and cause the driveshaft to detach from the truck. If the vehicle was in rear wheel drive mode, this would cause a loss of propulsion.

A driveshaft that detaches could result in a loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, a driveshaft that separates from the truck could create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people.

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the rear driveshaft with one that is properly welded.

On certain vehicles, the steering shaft may not have been properly manufactured. This could cause it to separate and cause a loss of steering control.

A loss of steering control could create the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace the steering column assembly.

On some vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals, the brake pedal could detach when it is adjusted. This could cause a loss of brakes.

A loss of brakes can create a risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to repair the adjustable pedal assembly. Drivers should not adjust the pedals until the vehicle is fixed. The pedals should never be adjusted while driving.

The power steering system may have a loose electrical connection. This could cause intermittent loss of power steering assist while driving/steering the truck. This may make the truck difficult to steer and could cause both oversteer and understeer conditions.

Sudden changes in steering force may increase the risk of a crash.

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to inspect and repair the electrical connection as needed.

On certain vehicles, an electronic fault may create a situation where the cruise control cannot be deactivated. If this occurs and the driver does not apply the brakes or shift the transmission to neutral, the vehicle could maintain speed or accelerate without warning, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software and perform an update as necessary. Note: In the interim, owners are advised not to use the cruise control until the vehicle is repaired.

A failure of this component (engine) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
