2010 Tiffin Phaeton Recall

On certain motorhomes equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by Kidde directly. On certain motorhomes, the windshield wiper arms could break. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the windshield wiper arms.

On certain motorhomes equipped with Lippert Components Inc. electric entry steps, an internal bolt on the steps that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps could fracture. This results in the fan gear disengaging from the steps, which could cause the steps to stop in an unexpected position and appear to be loose or unstable. If the steps become unstable, it could cause a person to fall, resulting in injury. Correction: Dealers will install a step retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, and all bolts of the mechanism will also be replaced.

On certain vehicles built on a Powerglide chassis, insufficient clearance exists between the exhaust pipe and the floor. This could cause the floor insulation to melt and make the floor area above the engine extremely hot, increasing the risk of personal injury or possibly resulting in a fire. Correction: Dealers will install a revised exhaust configuration to increase clearance.

On certain vehicles, the clearance lights may not have been adequately sealed at time of manufacture, allowing water ingress. This could cause an electrical short, potentially resulting in a fire, and cause the lights to fail, decreasing vehicle conspicuity. These issues could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the affected lights and install an inline fuse.

On certain vehicles, the connector for the brake and cruise control signal diode jumper assembly may come loose, resulting in a possible intermittent or continuously open circuit. Two circuits are potentially affected. One circuit disengages the cruise control with brake pedal application, and the other circuit illuminates the brake lights with brake application. Failure of the cruise control to disengage, or of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed, could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will verify that the locking tabs on the diode jumper assembly connector are fully engaged and locked into place.

On certain motorhomes, the adjustable brake pedal arm may loosen, rotate around its shaft, and swing in front of the accelerator pedal. Should the brake pedal arm contact and engage the accelerator pedal, it could result in extended stopping distances and a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will install a C-clamp assembly to the brake pedal arm.

Certain refrigerators used in Recreational Vehicles (RVs) contain either a sensing algorithm or a thermal switch to interrupt power when it detects high temperatures that could lead to a fire. An insufficient response time can result in the power not being shut-off in sufficient time to prevent a fire, which could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install a thermocouple with a faster response time for all refrigerators with a sensing algorithm or a thermal switch.
