Certain trucks may have been built with bare mufflers mounted at the back of the cab behind air shields. There is no heat shield to protect someone from contacting the hot muffler if they are standing on a deck plate behind the cab. Also, some of these vehicles were equipped with deck plates with no grab handle for access. Correction: Muffler shields and where necessary, grab handles will be installed on affected vehicles.

On certain trucks, the dryer cannot remove all of the moisture from the air. In a cold environment this moisture may freeze and effectively block the air lines downstream of the dryer resulting in an air pressure build up in the dryer. This air pressure may eventually cause the dryer cartridge to separate from the dryer. The separated cartridge may cause bodily injury to anyone standing near the dryer at the instant of separation. Correction: Pressure relief valves will be installed in the dryer outlet ports on the affected vehicles.

On certain trucks, the upper bunk retaining straps may release without warning allowing the upper bunk to fall from its raised storage position to its "in use" position. If someone is sitting in the lower bunk when the strap releases they may be subject to personal injury. Correction: Upper bunk retaining straps will be replaced with automotive seat belt style retaining straps.

On certain trucks, the timing link ball stud may not be correctly seated in the slave gear pitman arm taper. This could allow the ball stud to turn in the pitman arm taper causing the ball stud nut to loosen and eventually fall off. If this happens the timing link could separate from the pitman arm resulting in erratic or lost steering control with the potential for a crash. Correction: Timing link ball stud will be replaced.

On certain trucks, the aluminum rear spring shackle brackets may have developed cracks which may lead to separation of the brackets from the frame rail. This could cause the suspension to drop down on one side and result in a reduction in steering control with the potential for a crash. Correction: Rear spring shackle brackets will be replaced.

On certain trucks, the air dryer relief valve may be susceptible to freezing. Freeze-up of the relief valve in conjunction with a blockage in the air line between the air dryer and the wet tank may cause an overpressure condition which may cause the desiccant cartridge to separate from the dryer housing or cause breakage of the dryer housing. Either of these conditions may result in injury to persons standing near the dryer at the time of failure. Correction: Vehicles will be equipped with a redesigned relief valve and desiccant cartridge.

Certain trucks do not comply with CMVSS 302 - Flammability. Each of the bunks has a mattress cover with ticking that does not comply with the requirements of the standard. The burn rate of the ticking is in excess of the 4 inches per minute requirement. Correction: Mattress covers will be replaced.
