PICKUP TRUCKS WITH OPTIONAL SIDE-MOUNTED TIRE CARRIERS. THE REINFORCEMENT FOR THE IN-BOX SPARE TIRE CARRIER MAY HAVE BEEN ATTACHED USING INCORRECT HEX HEAD BOLTS. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS THE OUTER SIDEWALL OF THE SPARE TIRE MAY CONTACT THE SHARP EDGE OF THE BOLT AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN THE ABRASION OF THE SIDEWALL. SUCH ABRASION COULD CAUSE WEAKENING OF THE TIRE SIDEWALL AND WHEN THE SPARE TIRE IS USED AS A REPLACEMENT, IT COULD FAIL WITH SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE AND MIGHT RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.

IF THE PINCH BOLT IS MISSING OR HAS DISENGAGED, THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT COULD SLIP RELATIVE TO THE STEERING COLUMN AND EVENTUALLY SEPARATE FROM THE COLUMN RESULTING IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
