2021 Micro Bird G5 Commercial Bus Recall

On certain buses, the anchor screw caps for the wheelchair restraint system may not have been installed properly. As a result, the tie-downs may not lock correctly and could detach in a crash. Note: This recall only affects certain buses equipped with a Q'Straint Slide N' Click wheelchair restraint system.

Tie-downs that detach in a crash could increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, secure the anchor screw caps for the wheelchair restraint system. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the repairs performed at a Micro Bird dealership.

On certain electric buses, the power steering pump could fail when starting the vehicle or while driving. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power steering assist.

A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds, and increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to update the power steering pump software.

On certain buses, the power cable for the air conditioning control board may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the cable could loosen and overheat. Note: This recall only affects certain buses equipped with a Spheros ceiling-mounted air conditioning system.

Wiring that overheats could create the risk of a fire.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to secure the air conditioning control board power cable.

On certain buses, the exterior handle for the rear emergency door may not be strong enough. As a result, the handle could break and cause the emergency door not to be able to be opened from the outside.

A door that can't be opened could slow your exit from the bus in an emergency. This could also delay emergency responders from entering the bus. Both issues could increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your bus to a dealership to replace the rear emergency door exterior handle.

On one G5 electric bus, the high-voltage power assist system for the steering and brakes may not work properly. As a result, the power assist for the steering and brakes could fail while driving.

A loss of power brakes can cause a sudden increase in brake pedal force and lead to an increase in stopping distance. A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort. Both could increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify the owner by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Micro Bird recommends not to drive the bus until the recall repairs are completed.

On certain buses, the wrong hardware may have been used to attach the seats to the floor. As a result, the seats could detach in a crash. Note: This recall only affects buses built with an aluminum floor, and seats with seat belts.

A seat that moves or detaches could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a Micro Bird dealer to have your vehicle(s) repaired.

On certain G5 electric buses built on a Ford chassis, the AC charging harness could overheat while using a Level 2 charger.

A charging harness that overheats could create a fire risk.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a local dealer. Ecotuned Technologies will provide parts and instructions for how to correct this defect. Until the recall repairs are completed, Micro Bird advises to charge your bus using outside charging equipment only and to keep a safe distance between vehicles and buildings during charging.

On one G5 electric bus built on a Ford chassis, the power steering pressure line may not be properly connected to the brake booster. As a result, power steering fluid could leak and cause a loss of power steering and power brake assist.

A loss of power brakes can cause a sudden increase in brake pedal force and lead to an increase in stopping distance. A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds. Both could increase the risk of a crash.

Micro Bird will notify the owner by mail and advise them to contact a Micro Bird dealer for an inspection of the connection between the power steering pressure line and the Hydroboost unit. The power steering line will be replaced if the connection is not secure.

On certain buses, the power cable for the air conditioning control board may have a loose connection. As a result, the circuit board could overheat and melt.

A circuit board that overheats could create the risk of a fire.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a Micro Bird dealer to have your vehicle(s) repaired.

On certain buses, an unused wiring harness located in the B-pillar area could become damaged. If this happens, the wires could short circuit. Note: This recall only affects buses built on a General Motors chassis.

A short circuit could create the risk of a fire.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect the wiring and correct this problem.

On certain buses, the fold-away seat(s) may not have been attached correctly. As a result, the seat(s) could detach in a crash.

A seat that moves or detaches in a crash could create an increased risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect the fold-out seat(s). If the seat(s) are not properly installed, Micro Bird will advise you to contact a dealer to have the seat(s) re-installed correctly.

On certain buses, a fold-away seat was placed next to the emergency exit window. When the seat is folded, it may block the instruction label and release handle for the emergency exit. As a result, you may not be able to open the exit window without unfolding the seat.

An emergency exit that is difficult to open could slow your exit from the bus in an emergency. This could create an increased risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a dealer to have your vehicle(s) inspected and repaired.

On certain buses, the service door may not be adjusted correctly. As a result, the door panels may get stuck when the emergency release handle is used, or may not open when force is applied to the door. Additionally, the exterior emergency release handle may not allow the service door to be opened from outside of the bus.

A door that cannot be opened could delay exiting the bus in an emergency. This could also delay emergency response. Both of these issues could increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your bus to a dealer to adjust the service door. Alternatively, Micro Bird will provide owners instructions on how to correctly adjust the service door.

On certain vehicles, wires and/or connectors located in the wall behind the driver's seat may have been damaged during the assembly process. Also, metal shavings could have fallen into an electrical connector. Damaged wires or connectors could cause lights and accessories not to work properly, or could create a short circuit.

A short circuit could create the risk of a fire.

Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect the wiring and connectors, and repair any damage that is found.
