On certain school buses equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by Kidde directly. Note: For more information about recalled fire extinguishers, please visit www.kidde.com.

On certain school buses equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift, the lift platform sides may crack, which could cause the lift to lean against the vehicle door(s) and potentially fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, putting the lift operator at risk of injury. Correction: Ricon Corporation repair facilities will inspect lift platforms, link arms and bearings for cracks, damage or misalignment and if found to be damaged, link arms and/or platform will be replaced. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2014-330. Vehicles repaired under the previous recall will require re-inspection and potential repair.

Certain school buses may not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The Daytime Running Lights (DRL) may not illuminate when the master lighting switch is set to the parking lamps position. No DRL illumination could render the vehicle less visible to other motorists and pedestrians during daylight hours, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will update the DRL configuration on affected vehicles.
A failure of this component (lights and instruments) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
On certain school buses equipped with a Cummins ISB6.7 diesel engine, the engine fan pulley can fail. If this occurs, the belt would become detached from the water pump, which could cause the engine to overheat, potentially disabling the vehicle. If the bus is occupied when it becomes disabled, the occupants would need to exit the vehicle and be transferred to another vehicle, putting them at risk of injury. Correction: Cummins authorized service facilities will install an updated fan drive pulley.
A failure of this component (engine) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Certain school buses fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 217 - Bus Window Retention, Release and Emergency Exits. Specifically, the force required to operate the emergency roof hatch may exceed the allowable limit. In the event of an emergency, passengers may not be able to quickly exit the bus, which could increase the risk of personal injuries. Correction: Dealers will install a repair kit to update the roof hatch mechanism.
A failure of this component (other) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
On certain school buses, the grid heater relay ground wire may have been incorrectly routed and could chafe against the relay power terminal. Continued contact could wear through the wire’s insulation, which could cause an electrical short circuit. An electrical short could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Authorized repair facilities will inspect and, if necessary, reroute the grid heater relay ground wire.

On certain school buses, improper Bulk-Head Module software may cause the side marker and turn signal lamps to stop functioning after a few minutes of vehicle operation. Side marker failure could render the vehicle less visible to other motorists during hours of darkness, while a turn signal lamp malfunction may prevent the driver’s intentions from being conveyed clearly to other road users. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Authorized service facilities will update the Bulk-Head Module software.

Authorized dealerships will inspect the vehicle and complete all necessary repairs free of charge (parts and labor).
On certain school buses equipped with a Cummins engine, the V-band clamps used to connect the inlet and outlet cone sections to the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) / Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) include a T-bolt which can fracture and fail when subjected to stress or load. A fracture or failure of the T-bolt may cause the clamp to loosen and the inlet or outlet sections attached to the DOC/DPF housing to disconnect. Should this occur, hot exhaust gases can vent prior to exiting the tailpipe, creating a risk of combustion or damage to adjacent materials, which could result in a vehicle fire. If both clamps fail, the DOC/DPF housing could detach completely, separate from the vehicle, and strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Cummins will install updated V-band clamps.
A failure of this component (engine) may increase the risk of a crash or injury.
